Michael Mainelli

A qualified accountant, securities professional, computer specialist, and management consultant, educated at Harvard University and Trinity College Dublin, Michael gained his PhD at London School of Economics where he was also a Visiting Professor.  He co-founded Z/Yen in 1994, the City of London’s leading think-tank, to promote societal advance through better finance and technology after a career as a research scientist in aerospace & cartography, then accountancy-firm partner and director of Ministry of Defence research.  He created the Global Financial Centres Index and advises banks, insurers, exchanges and governments globally.  Michael is Emeritus Professor & Trustee at Gresham College where he leads the Long Finance initiative.  His book, “The Price of Fish: A New Approach to Wicked Economics and Better Decisions”, won the 2012 Independent Publisher Book Awards Finance, Investment & Economics Gold Prize.  

 

Dr Barnes created Anopolis in 2013 after 19+ years at UBS and as CEO of UBS MTF from launch to #1 among peers. Recognized in FTSE Global Markets 20-20 most influential market leaders of 2011, he chaired the World Exchange Congress 2011-2013, and is Chairman of TheCityUK Turkey Advisory Group. He is a Chartered Fellow and Board Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment and served as Chairman 2004-2009 of the Securities Trading Committee of the London Investment Banking Association. He originally joined the trading team at Swiss Bank Corporation in 1994, gained experience 'downstairs' on the Liffe derivatives floor as a yellow jacket and 'upstairs' trading special situations via brokers. He has participated on multiple exchange and regulatory groups, including the FSA's Capital Markets Senior Practitioner Committee, and the European Commission's Clearing and Settlement Advisory and Monitoring Expert Group. By invitation, he has addressed audiences in 35 countries. He is a practitioner member of the Country Classification Committee and Policy Group of FTSE, the global index provider, and an external editorial board member of The Markit Magazine, published quarterly and distributed worldwide. He holds a BA from Harvard and PhD from Cambridge.
